Small Town,
Progressive Values

"We're not just here to protest the government, we're here to become the government."
-Jim Hightower, former Texas Agriculture Commissioner
The fight for Democracy is upon us.

It's time for change.

It's time to get louder.

It's time to build coalition.
The Victoria Coalition of Progressive Democrats (VCPD) is based on shared interests and goals for those of us wanting (demanding) stronger, bolder Representation of progressive, liberal, and social values.

What it IS:
  • A gathering of like-minded individuals, whether your intention is to find a place to connect with others, or a place to bring ideas and help shape the political atmosphere in Victoria and beyond.
  • A place to bring energy for change.
What it ISN'T:
  • The Coalition of Progressive Democrats is not a formal committee of the Victoria County Democratic Party.
    • A coalition/caucus is formed based on shared interest and goals;
    • A committee addresses specific tasks or responsibilities and is governed by the VCDP.
  • The efforts of both coalitions and committees go hand-in-hand to advocate for progressive values.
Progressives and Democrats: different strokes for different folks

Democrats and Progressives are both left-leaning political ideologies that prioritize social justice, equality, and government intervention in the economy.

While often intertwined in American political discourse, "Progressive" and "Democrat" are not technically synonymous. The Democratic Party is one of the two major political parties in the United States, with a broad tent that encompasses a range of political beliefs from moderate to liberal. Progressives are a specific faction within that broad spectrum that advocates for reforms that sometimes extend beyond the conventional Democratic Party agenda.

What kind of ideologies and methodologies do Progressives represent?
  • Progressives often emphasize and advocate for ideologies that address issues like income inequality, healthcare for all, climate change, social justice, and a more assertive approach to regulating large corporations.
  • Progressives tend to be more radical in their policies and beliefs, pushing for more aggressive methodologies working toward a transformation of society as a means of addressing systemic inequalities, and they often advocate for policies that they believe will lead to a fairer, more equitable society.

While many Progressives operate within the Democratic Party, progressive ideology transcends party lines - not all Democrats identify as Progressive, and not all Progressives identify as Democrats.

Both Democrats and Progressives share a commitment to advancing progressive values and improving the lives of all Americans.
